CAPITAL CITY
Sarajevo – Population: 275.524 – 2013 census. Located in what is called Sarajevo Field, the city is surrounded by mountains: Bjelašnica, Jahorina, Igman, Treskavica and Trebević. The Miljacka river flows through town.
 
OFFICIAL LANGUAGES
Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian. English and German are the most popular foreign language.
 
OFFICIAL CURRENCY
Convertible mark (KM). The international abbreviation for currency is BAM, while KM is used locally. Parity: 1 EUR=1,95 KM. You can exchange your currency in any bank or post office. The banks are generally open from 08:00-18:00 on working days, and from 09.00-13:00 on Saturdays. Main post office is open from 07:00-20:00 from Monday to Saturday.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Sarajevo has tram, trolleybus, bus and minibus lines. Ticket cost 1,60 KM when purchased at a kiosk and 1,80 KM when purchased from the driver. Note: Be sure to have your ticket punched upon entering a bus or a tram, otherwise you risk being fined. 
 
TAXI SERVICES
Taxis are cheap in Sarajevo and operate 24 hours a day. The starting fare is 1,50 KM and the normal tariff per kilometer is 1,00 KM. All legitimate taxis have “TA” on their license plates and use a taxi meter.

Eid’s are the most important Muslim holidays. There are two Eid holidays in a year, Ramadan and Kurban Eid. Dates of Muslim holidays change every year since the date of celebration for the following year is always ten days before the date of celebration of the previous year.
